Malta’s inflation rate stood at 1.4 per cent in January 2025, registering a minor increase over the 1.2 per cent seen the previous month.
In a new release from the National Statistics Office, it said the highest contributor to Malta’s Retail Price Index – one of the measures of inflation – was the personal care and health index (+0.30 percentage points), largely due to higher prices of articles of personal hygiene.
The second and third largest contributions were measured in the food index (+0.29 percentage points) and the other goods and services index (+0.27 percentage points), mainly on account of higher prices of restaurant services and insurances, respectively.
Within the other goods and services category, the prices of jewellery and watches also registered a notable increase of 8.4 per cent.
A downward contribution to overall annual inflation was registered in the furnishings and household equipment index (-0.04 percentage points), mainly reflecting lower prices of household appliances.
