The Malta Tourism Authority has announced the 25th edition of the regatta of classic boats, titled Trophée Bailli de Suffren.

This year, 12 classic sailing yachts from around the world will set sail on a race departing from the port of Saint-Tropez, France, on 28th June 2025. The fleet will make stops in Bonifacio (Corsica), Porto Rotondo (Sardinia), and Marina Vento di Maestrale in Trapani (Sicily), before reaching its final destination in Malta on 12 July 2025.

Unique in its historical significance, naval etiquette and Corinthian spirit, the Trophée Bailli de Suffren has, for over the past two decades, brought together more than 108 classic yachts.

Dubbed as the Gentleman’s Race, the event also symbolises the shared maritime and military history between Malta and France, where participants will compete for the Admiral Satan’s Sabre, the official award given to the winner.

In 2000, Henri-Christian Schroeder decided to organise a regatta for classic boats to sail from Saint-Tropez to Malta in the footsteps of Pierre André de Suffren of Saint-Tropez, Bailli and Grand Cross of the Order of St John of Jerusalem and Vice-Admiral of the French Navy under Louis XVI.

The inaugural voyage took place in 2001 with four boats and the spirit of this voyage and the unique concept of the gentlemen of the sea, inspired by the founders, won over shipowners and crews alike.
