Malta’s fast-growing video games sector is set for a major international showcase in Cologne this month, with local studios, Malta Enterprise and one of the island’s most prominent game developers all taking part in gamescom week.

GamingMalta will support the European Game Night on 25th August, an indie game showcase and networking event organised by SpielFabrique at the start of gamescom week, before joining the wider global games industry at gamescom in Cologne from 26th to 30th August.

The seventh edition of European Game Night will feature two Malta-linked studios: PawBeans Studios, a collective of MCAST students whose collaboration grew out of school projects and game jams, and FEENIX Group, an international creative studio operating from base_camp in Malta and the UK.

FEENIX Group develops games and interactive experiences for international brands including Paddington and Puffin Rock, as well as Roblox experiences and esports projects. PawBeans Studios, meanwhile, will be pitching to an international industry audience for the first time, highlighting GamingMalta’s focus on helping emerging talent move from education into the games industry.

At gamescom, GamingMalta’s booth will operate as a shared business hub for the local ecosystem, giving more than 20 Maltese game studios and educational institutions access to international publishers, investors and strategic partners.

Malta Enterprise will also be present, promoting the support, incentives and investment opportunities available to companies looking to establish or expand operations in Malta.

The week will also place a spotlight on 4A Games, the Maltese-Ukrainian studio based in Sliema, which will showcase METRO 2039 during gamescom 2026. The game, described as one of the most anticipated releases for 2027, will feature during gamescom Opening Night Live on 25th August, before visitors get the chance to experience the post-apocalyptic first-person shooter during the main event.

GamingMalta said participation in the events reflects the objectives of Malta Vision 2050, including growing the country’s games ecosystem through international collaboration, business development, investment and talent development.

For Malta’s games sector, the combined presence at European Game Night and gamescom offers local developers both industry exposure and commercial opportunities, while underscoring the country’s ambition to strengthen its position as a hub for interactive entertainment.
