The series of scams targeting people in Malta continues, with the Malta Tax and Customs Administration (MTCA) warning the public about websites impersonating or presenting themselves as the authority’s official website.
In an official statement, the MTCA said people are being prompted to claim a tax refund through a linked website which is fraudulent.
The MTCA stressed that there is only one official website for the Malta Tax and Customs Administration and urged the public to exercise caution when accessing websites claiming to represent the authority.
It warned people against providing personal information, payment details or other sensitive data on websites that are not official or verified.
The MTCA also urged the public to always verify that they are accessing the authority’s official website before proceeding with any online communication or transaction.
The alert follows a series of warnings issued by other government entities, including LESA. Earlier this week, people received SMS messages claiming they had an outstanding traffic contravention, with the link directing them to a fraudulent website.
