The Indian Prime Minister posted the same tweet in all of the EU’s official languages.
The deal, which European Commission President Ursula von Der Leyen described as “the mother of all trade deals”, will allow the free trade of several goods between the EU and India, a combined market of of two billion people.
It will result in significant tariff cuts on several goods, including machinery, textiles chemicals, pharmaceuticals, jewellery, cars and a number of agricultural products.
Both sides will retain tariffs to protect sensitive agricultural sectors.
The EU estimates the agreement will save up to €4 billion annually in duties on European products and give EU exporters a competitive advantage in the Indian market.
India said it will improve access to European markets for Indian farmers and small businesses, and boost manufacturing and services sectors.
