The Water Services Corporation (WSC) has completed another solar power installation at the Lapsi Reverse Osmosis Plant, with the system now successfully connected to the national electricity grid.

The €600,000 project, financed through WSC’s Green Bonds programme, consists of 888 photovoltaic panels covering 3,300 square metres. With a total capacity of 515 kWp, the installation is expected to generate around 820,000 kWh annually – roughly equivalent to the energy needs of 190 households.

WSC CEO Karl Cilia described the project as part of the corporation’s ongoing efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and invest in renewable energy infrastructure. Environment, Energy and Public Cleanliness Minister Miriam Dalli said that initiatives funded through Green Bonds are intended to support Malta’s wider environmental and energy transition goals.

This project forms part of a broader strategy by WSC to increase investment in renewable energy, supported by proceeds from Malta’s first Green Bonds issued two years ago.
