In 2023, the total insurance claims related to car accidents and motor vehicle liabilities amounted to €64,852,888.
These figures were revealed on Monday by Minister for Finance Clyde Caruana while answering a parliamentary question posed by Shadow Minister for Health Adrian Delia.
In 2023, accidents resulting in no injuries for the parties involved totalled 15,024, marking an increase of 652 accidents or 4.5 per cent.
On the other hand, reported injury accidents amounted to 1,390, an increase of 49 accidents or 3.7 per cent over the previous year.
Despite this, 2022 saw the highest reported insurance claims as Gross Claims Incurred, with a total of €69.3 million. This figure represents a €4.5 million decrease in claims from 2022 to 2023.
Insurance claims for 2021 were registered at €63,291,020.
When asked about the total of paid-out claims for 2023, Minister Caruana explained that such information is longer being provided by insurance companies due to the newly implemented changes in accounting standards.
