Ryanair has announced that from 12th November 2025 it will phase out paper boarding passes, requiring all passengers to use the airline’s myRyanair app to generate a digital pass for boarding.
The low-cost carrier had initially planned the change for 3rd November, but delayed implementation until after the busy mid-term holiday period to ensure a smoother transition. The company said the move will provide a “faster, smarter, and greener travel experience” for its more than 206 million passengers.
According to Ryanair, almost 80 per cent of travellers already use digital passes, meaning the change formalises an already widespread practice. It mirrors trends in other industries, such as music and sporting events, where paper tickets have largely been replaced by digital-only formats.
However, the airline acknowledges that some airports do not accept mobile boarding passes.
These include:
- All airports in Morocco
- All airports in Turkey, except Dalaman
- Tirana airport in Albania, but only for flights to the UK
In such cases, passengers will still need to check in online and collect a paper boarding pass at the airport desk.
