Powercut enemalta

Swathes of heatwave-stricken Malta went dark on Monday evening (yesterday) after underground electricity cables were damaged.

According to a statement issued by Enemalta on Facebook, while some localities had their power switched back on within a relatively short period of time, this was not in the case for parts of Mosta in Naxxar.

A separate issue was identified in the high-voltage cables in the two localities concerned, which meant that works were still being carried out in the morning (today).

The company affirmed that it will continue conducting repairs in order for power to return to the concerned localities within the day.

On Tuesday morning, several shops across Constitution Street in Mosta remained shut, including a Convenience Shop and other grocery stores. Reports now indicate that power has been returned in Mosta. This situation in Naxxar is still unclear.

The power cut occurred in the middle of one of the year’s first heatwaves. According to Maltese Islands Weather, temperatures for today were expected to hit a high of 40°C, while it will only go as low as 27°C. Similar temperatures were forecasted for the next seven days.
