Economy Minister Silvio Schembri has announced “the largest ever new foreign direct investment project in Malta’s history.”

Speaking in a live recording from Chicago, the Minister said the investment will be in the medtech (medical technology) field.

He did not mention the company involved, saying that more details will be announced in the coming days and weeks.

The Minister said he has been working on the deal for the last two years, with the support of Malta Enterprise and INDIS.

He noted that while the 2025 announcement of STMicroelectronics’ major investment in its existing factory was the largest investment in Malta by a company already operating in the country, the new medtech investment will be largest new investment.
