Universal Air has announced an exciting expansion to its European network with the launch of a new direct route connecting Malta (MLA), Debrecen (DEB), and Leipzig (LEJ).

Starting 30th March, this twice-weekly service, operating on Thursdays and Sundays, will enhance travel opportunities for both leisure and business passengers. The route will be served by a De Havilland Canada Dash 8 aircraft with 78 seats, offering a comfortable and efficient journey with tickets already on sale.

Debrecen, Hungary’s second-largest city, is a dynamic destination known for its rich history, vibrant university atmosphere, and thermal spa culture. Known as the “Capital of the Great Plain,” it offers visitors a mix of historical landmarks, bustling cafés, and cultural attractions.

Just 10km outside the city, spa hotels provide a perfect retreat for relaxation, while Hortobágy National Park, a UNESCO-listed site, offers a unique glimpse into Hungary’s traditional horse culture and wildlife. The new connection from Malta to Debrecen opens up fresh travel opportunities for both tourists and business professionals.

Leipzig, one of Germany’s fastest-growing cities, is a major business, trade, and cultural hub. With world-renowned trade fairs and strong industrial ties, the city is an important destination for corporate travellers.

Music lovers will appreciate Leipzig’s deep connection to Johann Sebastian Bach, whose legacy remains alive at the iconic St. Thomas Church. Meanwhile, the city’s modern art scene, vibrant nightlife, and scenic parks make it a fantastic destination for both business and leisure.

Universal Air’s new route strategically strengthens links between Malta, Hungary, and Germany. With this expansion, Universal Air strengthens Malta’s position as a key travel hub while enhancing business and tourism connections in Hungary and Germany.

Simon Cook, CEO at Universal Air, emphasises the airline’s commitment to connectivity, “We’re excited to introduce this new route, catering to both business and leisure travelers. At Universal Air, we believe in making travel seamless, and these flights are a step towards strengthening connections between key European destinations.”
