‘You no longer have any filming dates booked on this film,’ Gladiator 2’s Malta extras told

There is no end in sight for the ongoing movie industry strike being led by the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), and extras hired in Malta for the Gladiator sequal were informed that they no longer have any filming days booked for the film.

The industrywide strike has suspended several productions being filmed worldwide, as union representing roughly 160,000 stands firm to its position on better pay and working conditions.     

“Due to the SAG-AFTRA strike that has been announced, with regret we inform you that this has forced production to pause.  Therefore you no longer have any filming dates booked on this film,” read an email sent by Brenda Camilleri Casting to extras hired in Malta.

While filming for the movie was initially paused on 14th July, it reportedly continued at a smaller scale without the main actors. However, following the latest update filming appears to have been entirely suspended.

“After 25 days of filming it’s clear that we are collectively creating a 'once in a generation' movie.  We genuinely appreciate all of your hard work and look forward to resuming production at some point in the future.”

Filming in Malta started in June and was reportedly set to last for four months, however, it is unclear what the future holds for the hundreds of cast and crew hired for the project.
