Linux Professional Institute (LPI) and the Open Source Society Malta (OSSMalta) announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) designed to catalyse Malta’s success in the global digital economy by bridging the gap between open source education and high-demand industry roles.
Building on OSSMalta’s 20-year history of pioneering open technology in the Maltese Islands, this MoU formalises the Society’s role as the dedicated liaison for the educational sector, students, and the LPI alumni.
Linux Professional Institute (LPI) is a global certification standard and career support organisation for open source professionals. With more than 350,000 certification holders, LPI is the world’s first and largest vendor-neutral Linux and open source certification body. Established over 20 years ago, OSSMalta is the leading authority on open source software and open standards in the Maltese Islands.
By integrating LPI’s world-class certification standards with OSSMalta’s strong community presence, the collaboration provides a clear roadmap for building a future-ready workforce, the Linux Professional Institute said.
“Given its unique geographical position, Malta is perfectly situated to serve as a high-tech bridge between Europe and the wider Mediterranean region. The MoU recognises that the next generation of tech workers needs more than just theoretical knowledge; they need globally recognised credentials to compete on an international stage.”
“Malta has the opportunity to position itself as a regional reference point for open source talent development. This MoU creates a bridge between community, education, and industry, helping students and professionals gain globally recognised skills that support innovation, employability, and digital sovereignty,” said Hernán Pachas Magallanes of Linux Professional Institute. “OSSMalta’s two decades of leadership makes them the ideal partner to ensure that Maltese students and professionals have the tools to excel in an international tech landscape.”
“For 20 years, OSSMalta has championed the belief that open source is the key to digital autonomy and innovation,” said Warren Camilleri, Founder of OSSMalta.
“However, the true driving force of our success has always been our people. It is our members, our contributors, and the everyday users of open source in Malta who have built this community. This MoU with LPI is a tribute to their dedication, providing them and the students who will follow in their footsteps with a certified, global pathway to success.”
