Malta’s tourism sector continued its strong recovery in early 2025, with February alone recording 210,305 inbound tourists, marking a 24.2 per cent increase compared to the same month in 2024. This surge reflects growing international interest in Malta as a year-round destination.
Tourists in February spent a total of 1,237,182 nights on the islands, with a remarkable 90 per cent of guest nights spent in rented accommodation establishments such as hotels, guesthouses, and short-let apartments. This indicates continued demand for professionally managed stays and highlights the sector’s importance to the local economy.
Tourism expenditure also saw significant gains, with total spending in February exceeding €146.8 million. This upward trend carried over from January, bringing the total number of inbound tourists for the first two months of 2025 to 404,463.
Across January and February, tourists spent nearly 2.4 million nights in Malta and Gozo, with total expenditure reaching €289.4 million. On average, this equates to €716 per capita, underscoring the value of each visitor to the local economy.
These positive figures signal a healthy and sustained growth for the Maltese tourism industry, driven by increased air connectivity and the islands’ growing appeal as a cultural and leisure destination.
