Ryanair

Ryanair announced that the airline will have a total of 66 routes connected to Malta for summer 2023, with over 470 weekly flights planned, an increase of 26 per cent from summer 2022.

The four new destinations are Baden, East Midlands, Memmingen, and Stockholm.

The airline announced that this schedule expansion will be underpinned by a $600 million (€565.17 million) investment in six aircraft, four of which will be Boeing 737  ‘Gamechangers’.

The surge in weekly flights is expected to facilitate the country’s recovery of inbound tourism to pre-COVID-19 levels, with 3.5 million passengers expected to fly to and from Malta under the expanded schedule.

Around 3,000 jobs are expected to be supported by Ryanair’s activities, further entrenching the country’s status as an aviation industry hub.

CEO of the Malta Tourism Authority, Carlo Micallef, said, “following a successful 2022 which saw tourism recover to 2.3 million arrivals in a year which had commenced facing the challenges and restrictions of the Omicron variant, we are looking forward to an even stronger recovery during 2023 which should get us very close to 2019 record results.”
