Come 7th June, when bars will be allowed to reopen and a limit of six people will be allowed to gather in public, the Government is also planning to make its €45 million voucher scheme available to the public for use.
Speaking during a live interview on Sunday morning with One Radio, Prime Minister Robert Abela said that in the coming days, Government will be sharing details of how the vouchers will begin to be distributed, expected to take place this month.
The 2021 voucher scheme is the second of its kind, and was originally intended to be issued in January 2021, however rising COVID daily transmission rates and resulting restrictive measures delayed the programme.
This year’s voucher scheme will see €60 allotted for accommodation, restaurants and Malta Tourism Authority licensed establishments and €40 for retail outlets, with denominations of €10 and €15, to each resident of Malta aged 16 and over.
With the reopening of bars on 7th June, the vouchers are being rolled out at a time when almost all businesses will have been allowed to reopen.
