In a recent Quality of Service (QoS) assessment of mobile communications conducted by the Malta Communications Authority (MCA), Epic emerged as the leader in three out of four categories.

The independent benchmark assessed the quality of local voice and data service providers against internationally recognised standards, with measurements carried out in December 2024 without the service providers’ knowledge.

Overall, Melita ranked second and GO placed third.

The QoS assessment tested the three major mobile operators across four categories: voice services, data throughput, browsing, streaming and eGaming and geographical consistency.

In voice services, Epic led in overall call experience, followed by Melita.

Epic also topped the data throughput category – which measures the speed at which data is transmitted or received over the network – with GO coming in a close second.

In the combined category of browsing, streaming, and eGaming, GO outperformed its competitors across all three subcategories, with Epic taking second place.

In terms of browsing, streaming and eGaming, GO emerged winner in this category across all three, followed by Epic.

Epic also ranked first in geographical consistency, providing stable performance across Malta and Gozo. The MCA noted that this category reflects minimal performance variation and ensures a reliable user experience regardless of location.

In its statement, the MCA confirmed that the next mobile QoS assessment will take place in Q4 of this year.
