Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri has unveiled an international promotional campaign falling under the remit of VisitGozo, as part of the Government’s efforts to promote Gozo on the tourist map.
The campaign focuses on key source markets for tourists, like Germany, Scandinavia and other countries in Central and Western Europe.
Speaking during a press conference announcing the initiative, the Minister said that “The promotional campaign is a broad one, operating on all the key platforms, digital as well as traditional ones.”
“We will be seeing VisitGozo adverts on trams in Berlin and Frankfurt, as well as other places frequented by thousands, along with social media and television campaigns,” he said.
This is backed up by “extensive” work on the VisitGozo website, which has been given modern look and more information on the various tourism niches of Gozo.
Minister Camilleri explained that Gozo had also attracted attention from various other sites, being yet again given a high ranking in the Quality Coast Award, receiving the maximum points possible in the Gold Destinations category.
He added that the tourism sector is one of the most important economic pillars for Gozo, and infrastructural works were ongoing to strengthen this industry, mentioning the fast ferry service as another important step to improve the island’s connectivity.
“While remaining responsible in our actions, we need to look forward with optimism,” he said. “The Government has shown that it will leave no one alone after these very challenging months.”
He noted that the Ministry had undertaken the most intensive promotion campaign ever for Gozo, with the aim of supporting the tourism industry that remains one of the most important industries in the country.
Director for Tourism and Economic Development within the Ministry for Gozo Ronald Sultana said, “We have worked hard to create this promotional campaign to increase awareness about Gozo on the international market, specifically in audiences most likely to be inclined to choose Gozo for their vacation.”
He added that the Government continues to support Gozitan tourism operators through various schemes, including for marketing their services abroad.
Also present at the meeting were CEO of the Gozo Tourism Association Joe Muscat and chairman Paul Scicluna, as well as CEO of the Gozo Business Chamber Daniel Borg.
